Founding Vision
Blessed Sister Ulrika
Ulrika Institute of Home Economics was established in 1976 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix (IHMR) – Ggogonya, under the name "Ulrika Domestic School", under the patronage of Blessed Sister Ulrika of Hegne, Germany.
The founding vision was simple yet powerful: to help disadvantaged girls acquire practical skills for positive living, and to equip housewives with competencies to support their homes. What began as a small domestic school has since grown into a fully registered vocational training institution.
Milestones Through the Years
Founding of Ulrika Domestic School
Established by the IHMR Sisters to empower disadvantaged girls with practical skills in Home Economics, Tailoring, Health Science, Foods & Nutrition, Hygiene, Etiquette, Self Care, Agriculture, Accounts, and House-keeping.
Expansion of Programmes
The school broadened its curriculum, strengthening its vocational training offerings and earning recognition as a centre for practical education in the region.
Admission of Male Students
In a landmark decision, the institute began admitting male students as non-residents — widening access to quality vocational training for all.
UBTEB & UVTAB Accreditation
Registered as a UBTEB and UVTAB examination centre, allowing our students to sit for national vocational examinations.
Leading TVET Provider
Ulrika Institute is now a registered Institute with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES 128), licensed by NCHE (LT38), and a UBTEB Centre (UBT 228 / UBB 159) and UVTAB private TVET provider (UVT 228).
Our Legacy Today
Today, Ulrika Institute of Home Economics stands as a leading vocational training institution, blending traditional hands‑on skills with modern digitalized learning. Our graduates are making their mark in hotels, fashion houses, salons, and entrepreneurial ventures across Uganda and beyond.
